Fair questions, direct answers.
These are the questions we actually get by email. If yours isn't here, write to giurgiur99@gmail.com — we read every one.
Is the bill of sale you generate legally valid?
Yes. In Florida we use the official FLHSMV form HSMV 82050 — the same form the state DMV publishes. In states that don't publish an official bill-of-sale form (Texas, Illinois, Michigan), we use a professional template compliant with each state's DMV requirements. The document is legally valid for private party vehicle sales. It is not legal advice — for contested or complex sales, consult an attorney.
Why is it only $9.99 when competitors charge $35–50 per month?
Because we don't want a subscription relationship. A vehicle bill of sale is a one-time document most people need once every few years. Charging $40/month forever for that is a business model built on forgotten auto-renewals. Ours is built on one honest transaction.
Do I need to notarize the bill of sale?
Not in any of the six states we currently serve — Florida, Texas, California, Georgia, Illinois, and Michigan were chosen specifically because none of them require notarization for a vehicle bill of sale. The buyer and seller sign electronically (valid under the federal E-SIGN Act) and you're done.
How does the VIN auto-fill work?
Enter the 17-character VIN from the dashboard or door jamb. We call NHTSA's free public vPIC API (vpic.nhtsa.dot.gov) and pull the year, make, model, body class, engine, fuel type, and 125+ other fields the federal database has on file. No signup required, no key. It's the same database your state DMV uses.
What if the buyer and I aren't in the same place?
Each party can sign from their own phone. The completed PDF is emailed to both seller and buyer. The wizard was designed for the parking-lot handshake but it works fine for remote sales — just exchange the document by email and both sign from where you are.
Will you sell my data?
No, we don't sell or rent your data. We do use Google Analytics and Google Ads conversion tracking to measure how our ads perform — after you purchase, a hashed version of the buyer's email (not the plain address) is sent to Google so a paid-ad click can be matched to a sale. You can reject analytics and advertising cookies on the banner at first visit. Form data is kept for 12 months so we can re-send your PDF if you lose it. Full policy at /privacy.
Can I get a refund?
Full refund within 24 hours of purchase — email us with your document UUID. After 24 hours we refund documents that failed to deliver or had technical errors. See /refunds for details.
What states do you support?
Florida is live today. Texas, California, Georgia, Illinois, and Michigan are coming soon — we chose these six because none require notarization, which keeps the process fast. New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, North Carolina, and others with notarization requirements are on the roadmap.
What happens after I pay?
Stripe confirms the payment, our server regenerates your PDF without the watermark, and we email it to both the seller and buyer at the addresses you entered. The whole post-payment flow usually takes under 30 seconds. You can also download directly from the success page.
Can I use this on my phone?
Yes. The wizard is mobile-first — it was designed for the 'parking-lot moment' when a buyer is handing you cash and you need paperwork on the spot. Canvas signature capture works with your finger.
Do I need to create an account?
No. We don't have accounts. You enter your information, pay once, and get your PDF. If you need it again later, email us with your document UUID and we'll resend it.
Is my odometer reading required?
Yes, for any vehicle with a model year of 2011 or newer (the federal 20-year rule that took effect January 1, 2021, under 49 CFR Part 580). Older vehicles are exempt. Read directly from the dashboard — don't estimate.
What if my buyer or seller is out-of-state?
You still sign the Florida title and fill out the HSMV 82050. The buyer takes those documents to their home state DMV, which will title and register the vehicle under their state's rules and collect their state's sales tax. The Florida seller still must file the Notice of Sale in Florida within 30 days.
Does Florida require a smog or emissions test?
No — Florida is one of the few states without any vehicle emissions inspection requirement.
Who operates BillOfSaleMaker?
An independent small business. If you have questions or want to reach a human, email giurgiur99@gmail.com — we read every message and usually reply the same day.
Still stuck?
Email giurgiur99@gmail.com. If it's about a specific order, include the document UUID from your confirmation page and we'll sort it out usually within the day.
